Summertime is the best time to bust out all your favorite chilled wines! Modeled after the beloved Healdsburg Pink Party, Fête Blanc is a fun, new event to taste wine country's best sparkling and white wines.
Fête Blanc: Summer Bubbles and Unique White Wines is an event held at the picturesque Barndiva Gardens in downtown Healdsburg, California. After the success of the Healdsburg Pink Party, organizers created an event specifically in celebration of sparkling and white wines. When I heard about Fête Blanc, I knew my best friend, Paige, and I had to go - We live for white wine and the two of us have definitely been known to pop open a bottle of bubbles every now and then.
The Barndiva Gardens are tucked behind the restaurant and provided a beyond gorgeous setting for this event, with over 20 incredible wineries in attendance!
Roederer Estate and several other wineries came to Healdsburg for this event from all the way up in Anderson Valley. The 2009 Roederer L'Ermitage Brut is one of my all-time favorite sparkling wines.
All proceeds from raffle ticket sales were donated to Farm to Pantry, a volunteer-based organization in Sonoma County, California. Farm to Pantry is behind many local programs that aim to provide affordable, healthy (fresh!) food for our community.
The restaurant at Barndiva provided light appetizers for us to snack on, yum! In addition to the delicious bites, there were dozens of handcrafted, award-winning wines to taste. Paige and I spent the afternoon hunting down which ones we liked best and these were our top five favorites:
2012 Iron Horse Classic Vintage Brut, Green Valley RRV
Orange marmalade, baked apple, hazelnut, rising dough
I am a big fan of weekend brunch and everyone knows you need bubbles to brunch properly. This Classic Vintage Brut from Iron Horse stood out to me as the sparkling wine I enjoyed most from this event.
2015 Front Porch White, Russian River Valley
Pear, fresh almond, sourdough bread, honeysuckle
This white blend from Front Porch Farm is a fun combination of 39% Grenache Blanc, 35% Viogner, 13% Roussanne, and 13% Marsanne. This easy-drinking white is perfect for a hot, summer day.
2016 Unti Cuvée Blanc, Dry Creek Valley
Lime, pear, crisp citrus
I think when I married an Italian, I married Italian wine too. Vermentino is hard to find in Sonoma County, but if anyone would make one, it's Unti. The blend on this Cuvée Blanc is 64% Vermentino, 27% Grenache Blanc, and 9% Picpoul.
2016 Reeve Riesling, Anderson Valley
Apple, pear, lemon
I really enjoy everything I've tasted from Reeve so far, including this Anderson Valley Riesling. This one has a touch of sweetness, which is fantastic for pairing with spicy food, like Indian or Thai. I'm headed to their Dry Creek Valley property in Healdsburg for my birthday later this month (yay!), so stay tuned for more on Reeve.
2015 Idlewild Cortese, Fox Hill Vineyard
Chamomile, persimmon, cardamom, citrus peel, and white pepper
My husband, Ian, doesn't usually like white wine, but he'll drink this Cortese from Idlewild Wines all day. I love the spicy and herbal notes in this wine in particular.
The intimate feel and upscale vibe of Fête Blanc is what makes this event so special - For now, it's a total hidden gem that many visitors don't know about, but I don't expect it to stay that way for long. See you next year for more incredible sparkling and white wines!
